More about Shahin

She is a mom of two daughters, ages 10 and 15, who inspire her passion for teaching mindfulness.

Shahin was moved to change her career from Occupational Health and Safety to becoming a Mindfulness Coach because, while raising her daughters, she became very concerned that depression and anxiety rates among young people are at an all-time high; eating disorders in young girls and boys are at an all-time high; and stress in adults has many negative effects on themselves and the children they are teaching and caring for.

Shahin has travelled extensively In Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and has also travelled as a volunteer with Child Haven International to India, Nepal, Tibet, and Bangladesh; as well as with The Child Is Innocent to Gulu, Uganda (where she was born).

To illustrate the evolution of her belief and practice, Shahin says:

"Throughout my life and travels, I’ve learned that If we are able to learn the skills to stop and be aware of the present moment, and when we are able to be still, without looking back, ruminating and analyzing the past or worrying about and trying to predict the future, we will gain a clarity that can bring the most immense joy and happiness. Mindfulness can bring about a clarity that allows us to savour the moment and live a meaningful and passionate life."

Shahin is resolute in her conviction that by teaching the skills and practice of mindfulness to both children and adults, we can change the world in which we live, one relationship at a time, one conversation at a time, one interaction at a time.
