Some days being a parent is exhausting.
We’ve all had those moments when we think: “Will this child never go to sleep?” “How do I diffuse this tantrum?” “How do I deal with these tears and heart ache?” We all have our own managing tools to deal with the ups and downs of being a parent: rushing through breakfast, driving kids to and from school and activities, getting them through dinner, and finally, making it to bedtime.
All families experience this kind of stress which, when unmanaged, leads to decreasing physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Having a consistent set of tools to use on a daily basis is the key to being able to manage our own stress levels, and to being present and aware during family moments. When adults develop their own mindfulness strategies and daily practice they can most effectively care for their children, engage meaningfully with all family members, and create peaceful homes.
Our Vancouver mindfulness for parents programs will provide easy-to-use techniques that will help you, your children and your family function more positively.
Why does mindfulness practice for parents matter?
Healthy parents are more likely to raise healthy kids. Stress in adults leads to increased stress in their immediate environment and for their kids who share it with them. Unmanaged stress in adults and children leads to negative outcomes, including:
- Behavioral issues
- Poor health
- Problems with attention and impulse control
- Decreased academic outcomes
- Social problems
- Decreased performance at work
- Anxiety and depression
- Decreased attendance at work and at school
How does the Mindfulness for Parents program work?
Our mindfulness for parents programs and retreats are based on the core belief that all families are unique, so we do not claim to have “the one perfect approach” to mindful parenting.
Rather, we have found that when parents implement small, daily, mindful practices that promote social and emotional well-being, they are better prepared to respond to the many challenges of raising children.
We present moms and dads easy-to-implement tools and strategies grounded in the knowledge that small changes can make a big difference.
What you’ll learn during the Mindful Changes for Parents program
The mindfulness for parents program presents the results of research on how the brain works, how mindfulness practice effects the brain, and teaches you how to:
- build “grit” and resilience in your child
- increase self-confidence in yourself and your child
- decrease stress in the home
- regulate your own emotions during times of stress, and
- nurture and grow the practice of gratefulness and empathy in your child.
Three-hour workshops are held on a monthly basis in Vancouver, BC and the Lower Mainland.
